Charles Herbert Shinners was born on January 29, 1925, to John P. Shinners and Ida Mae (Finch) Shinners. He was the second to the youngest child of 7 children. He married Dolores Ann Boettcher on April 8, 1951, in Davenport. He was a lifetime resident of Davenport and most recently resided at Good Samaritan Home.
Charlie, as he was known by family and friends, attended the Davenport Community Schools. He was a proud WWII Navy Veteran and widely recognized by the Navy cap he wore proudly most every day. He was employed by the United States Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Along with spending time with family, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and keeping in touch with fellow retirees. He was a proud member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for 50 plus years, lighting the candles on the altar for many years – rarely missing a Sunday.
He could “wow” the crowds with his paddle ball prowess. His sense of humor brought joy to the hearts of many. He will always be lovingly remembered for the candy he kept on hand for family, friends and anyone who had a sweet tooth. His “smiley face” stickers and hand written smiles were legendary to all who received cards and notes from him.
